The Innocents Assistance Fund

In 1994, William Nieves was wrongly convicted and sentenced to death for a crime he did not
commit.

In 2000, he was acquitted at retrial.  When he was released by Philadelphia County, the county
gave him a subway token and a set of clothes.  At 1 A.M.

On October 8, 2005, William passed away as a result of treatable, curable health problems he
claimed went untreated during his incarceration. During his five years of freedom, William did not
have health insurance, and after saying goodbye to their son, brother, and father, his family has
been left with a tremendous financial burden.

Central Pennsylvanians to Abolish the Death Penalty has established the Innocents Assistance
Fund in William’s memory.  A donation to this fund will aid his family in their time of need.
